From the sun baked sedimentary plains of Australia, this White Opal began its patient story, each thin layer of silica gel laid down over millennia until nature, in a subtle and slow alchemy, trapped light within microscopic spheres. Miners and prospectors working dry gullies and ancient inland basins lifted a rough piece that, under a loupe, hinted at a soft translucent body and a playful shimmer of multiple colors. At The Natural Gemstone Company we selected this specimen for its gentle, multicolored flash and its pure, pale background, a characteristic that defines the White Opal family. The gem was carefully shaped into an elegant oval cabochon, its final proportions measuring 10.31 x 8.09 x 3.37 mm, and weighing 1.87 carat. Under loupe and eye level inspection the clarity reads very slightly included, evaluated at eye level, the color intensity is very light, the polish is excellent, and there has been no enhancement, leaving the stone wholly natural and honest to its Australian origin.
In the lapidary studio the cutter read the stone like a manuscript, following veins and color play, removing only what was necessary to reveal a smooth dome that amplifies the opal sheen. The cabochon cut invites the spectral flashes to move with the light and the body to breathe with a soft translucence, ideal for a bezel or a low profile prong that protects the edges while showcasing the shifting sparks of green, red, and blue. This 1.87 carat oval multi color White Opal is a quiet storyteller, suited for a pendant close to the heart or a ring designed for gentle wear. We at The Natural Gemstone Company recommend guarding it against harsh knocks and prolonged exposure to detergents, storing it separately padded with soft cloth, and enjoying its special nature, because this is a gem that rewards daily viewing with new surprises. Owning this opal is owning a piece of Australian time, transformed by human hands into a polished jewel that still remembers the slow work of earth, wind, and water.
