Product description

From the ancient soils of Ceylon, Sri Lanka, this rhodolite garnet began its life deep within metamorphic rock, where heat and pressure coaxed a rare balance of chromium and manganese into a pinkish purple hue that catches the light like a secret. Miners working time honored methods found the crystal embedded in weathered gravels, and each rough was carefully selected for its transparency and potential to reveal a vivid tone when cut. At The Natural Gemstone Company we cherish that provenance, and we trace every step of the journey back to those hills, because the story of a gemstone is part of its beauty. This 1.67 carat oval rhodolite is notable not only for its color, but for the honesty of its origin, with no treatments applied, and with characteristics that speak of Sri Lankan geology and the patient work of the hands that brought it to light.

The gem was entrusted to cutters who honored its original soul, shaping it into an elegant oval of 7.63 by 6.13 by 4.34 millimeters with a mixed brilliant cut that combines the scintillation of a brilliant with the breadth of an oval. The mixed brilliant arrangement was chosen to intensify the saturated pinkish purple, while preserving the stone s transparency and the excellent polish that allows clean light return. Evaluated at eye level the clarity grade reads as very slightly included, and those tiny natural inclusions sit discreetly beneath the surface, adding character without distracting from the gem s clarity. Because this rhodolite is untreated, its intense color saturation feels honest and alive, and each facet was placed to capture the breadth of tone from the pavilion up through the crown, so the color lives and breathes as the ring moves.

The setting is where the narrative shifts from nature to design, and here the metal and accent stones are conceived to amplify the rhodolite s virtues. The ring is crafted entirely in platinum 950, a metal whose cool, luminous presence enhances the pinkish purple by contrast, allowing the eye to read the hue as purer and deeper than if it were set in warmer metal. A halo of white round natural diamonds frames the oval center, and additional white round diamonds are set along the shoulders, in totals that include stones weighing approximately 0.30 carats, 0.24 carats, and 0.18 carats, each graded clarity VS and color F or G. The halo acts as a reflective bezel, bouncing white light into the edges of the rhodolite, sharpening its outline and making the center appear larger and more vivid. The diamonds on the band create a cascading effect, so every tilt of the hand produces tiny flashes of white light that contrast with the stone s rosy body color, and the VS clarity of the diamonds maintains a clean, bright canvas against which the rhodolite s internal features remain a poetic part of the gem s story.

The engineering beneath the crown is as important as what you see from above, and careful openwork and prong placement allow maximum light to pass through the pavilion, reinforcing clarity and color saturation at the point where it matters most. Four secure prongs hold the oval rhodolite with balance and poise, raising it slightly above the halo so that light can enter from multiple angles, and the platinum gallery is polished to a mirror finish to reflect and amplify the gem s natural sparkle. The result is a ring that feels like a single uninterrupted conversation between earth and craft, where every technical decision was made to honor origin, to showcase intense color, and to reveal the stone s transparent clarity. At The Natural Gemstone Company we design such pieces so that they wear as stories, so that the wearer can feel connected to the mine, the cutter, and the metalsmith who together created this moment.

When you place this ring on your finger you carry more than a jewel, you carry a journey that began beneath the Ceylon sky and ended in a luminous circle of metal and light, made to be worn and admired. The interplay of the untreated rhodolite s pinkish purple, the white brilliance of carefully matched diamonds, and the cool embrace of platinum 950 produces an elegant, contemporary halo ring that remains rooted in tradition and in respect for natural beauty. Caring for the ring is simple, with routine gentle cleaning to maintain the diamonds sparkle and the rhodolite s sheen, and periodic professional inspection of the prongs to ensure long term security. If you would like to learn more about the exact diamond arrangement or to see this ring in person, our specialists at The Natural Gemstone Company are ready to guide you, because we believe a gemstone is happiest when it is understood, worn, and loved.
