This translucent bi color agate weighs 5.67 carats, and presents an elegant oval silhouette with measurements of 15.98 x 12.09 x 4.28 mm, fashioned as a smooth cabochon that emphasizes its depth and play of color. The clarity grade is eye clean at standard viewing distance, indicating that inclusions are minimal and do not interfere with the visual appeal, and the piece shows intense color intensity with an excellent polish that delivers a glassy, tactile finish. This specimen has not undergone any enhancement, making it a fully natural example of chalcedony, and its bi color character is especially desirable to educated buyers who value natural color zoning and balanced translucency. The combination of substantial carat weight for an agate, fine polish, and clearly defined zoning places this stone in a superior class for collectors and designers, it is well suited for a distinctive pendant or a museum quality cabinet, and it demonstrates the stability and durability expected of microcrystalline quartz.
This agate originated in Madagascar, a region known for producing exceptionally patterned and vividly colored agates, and it carries the geological story of formation over millions of years. Deep within volcanic terrains, silica rich fluids migrated through fissures and voids, depositing successive layers of microscopic quartz crystals in rhythmic bands, and subtle variations in trace elements such as iron and manganese, along with variations in fluid chemistry and temperature, produced the alternating hues that create the bi color effect. Over epochs, slow cooling and diagenesis consolidated the microcrystalline structure into a durable chalcedony, while occasional suspended mineral particles and fluid inclusions contributed to the translucency and internal texture that is visible to the eye. Subsequent uplift and erosion exposed the host nodules, and skilled lapidaries selected a section with optimal banding and translucency, shaping it into the present cabochon and bringing out an excellent polish that enhances light interaction and color saturation. At The Natural Gemstone Company we provide full disclosure of provenance and treatment, and we present this eye clean, untreated 5.67 carat oval bi color agate as a reliable, scientifically grounded choice for collectors, jewelers, and connoisseurs who value authenticated natural gemstones.
