This listing describes one beautiful opaque 62.61 carat pear shape multi color agate, dimensions 49.31 x 28.95 x 5.87 mm, cabochon cut, clarity grade eye clean evaluated at eye level, medium color intensity, and an excellent polish. The piece is natural with no enhancement and originates from Madagascar, a region known for producing high quality agates with complex banding. The surface has a smooth cabochon domed profile that highlights the internal patterning and ensures stability for a variety of settings. Opal type White Opal is noted in the accompanying catalog information for comparative reference to the lighter tones present in the stone. The Natural Gemstone Company presents this item with clear documentation of its physical attributes and treatment status, aimed at providing accurate information for gem cutters, designers, and collectors.
This multi color agate formed over millions of years through a patient geological process, beginning when silica rich fluids infiltrated cavities and vesicles within volcanic rock. As the fluids cooled and precipitated successive layers of microscopic quartz, subtle changes in chemistry, trace element content, and flow conditions produced alternating bands and orbicular structures. Iron, manganese, and other impurities became entrained in specific layers, producing the warm reds and soft greys visible in this specimen, while intervals of purer silica yielded the near white areas that recall White Opal tones. Layer upon layer accumulated at rates measured in millimeters per thousand years, and periodic variations in the local environment created the complex, lace like motifs characteristic of high grade agates. Over geological time the host rock eroded, releasing these nodules into sedimentary deposits where they were eventually recovered. Modern lapidary work then refined the rough material into a pear shaped cabochon, respecting the natural pattern orientation to maximize visual appeal and to retain an eye clean clarity for viewing at normal distances. The resulting 62.61 carat gem combines documented provenance, precise dimensions, confirmed absence of enhancement, and a polished finish that communicates both its long formation history and suitability for considered use in fine jewelry and collection pieces.
