Product description

This GIA certified green blue changing to purple alexandrite weighs 1.04 carat, and is presented in a marquise shape that measures 10.40 x 5.09 x 2.84 mm, with a mixed brilliant cut designed to maximize scintillation and the unique color change that defines fine alexandrite. The gem is transparent, with a clarity grade of slightly included evaluated at eye level, a vivid color intensity, and an excellent polish. There has been no enhancement, the stone is natural and untreated, and the origin is Brazil. GIA certification confirms the gem is what it appears to be, with independently verified weight, dimensions, cut description, clarity observation, and a reliable statement of locality and treatment status, providing a foundation of trust for the educated buyer who values unbiased laboratory assessment and full disclosure.

The journey of this alexandrite begins in Brazil, where artisanal and small scale miners working within hard rock pegmatite and alluvial deposits recovered the rough crystal. In the early stages the material is carefully sorted by experienced miners and local lapidaries, who separate promising crystals by color saturation, clarity and crystalline habit. The selected rough then traveled to a master cutter who assessed orientation and internal features under strong light and microscope, choosing a marquise outline and a mixed brilliant faceting strategy to balance the gem when viewed under daylight and incandescent lighting. The cutter followed precise proportions to maintain the weight, while enhancing the color change phenomenon, and carried out meticulous preforming, faceting, and polishing until the lustre reached excellent polish standards. After cutting the stone was evaluated by trained gemologists for clarity and measured with calibrated instruments, then submitted to GIA for formal grading and certification. The certificate that accompanies this alexandrite documents its natural, untreated status, its Brazilian origin, and the technical specifications, creating traceability from mine to market, and ensuring that The Natural Gemstone Company can offer this gem to collectors and connoisseurs with full provenance and laboratory backed validation.

For an educated buyer this alexandrite presents multiple layers of value, beginning with the intrinsic rarity of alexandrite and the technical rarity of a vivid color change combined with transparency and excellent polish. The color change from greenish blue in daylight to purplish under warmer lighting is caused by chromium and trace transition elements interacting with the gem s crystal field, a phenomenon that is chemically and physically rare. The slightly included clarity, observed at eye level, indicates internal characteristics that are small enough that they do not detract from the gem s face up appearance for most viewers, yet they serve as natural fingerprints that confirm the stone is untreated. The marquise shape and mixed brilliant cut amplify brilliance and make efficient use of the 1.04 carat weight, while the dimensions are ideal for a wide range of settings from solitaire rings to bespoke pendants. With a Mohs hardness of 8.5 alexandrite is durable enough for daily wearable jewelry when properly set and cared for, and because this stone has no enhancement its market desirability and potential for long term value appreciation are higher than for treated material. The Natural Gemstone Company stands behind this offering with detailed documentation, careful provenance, and expert guidance, enabling collectors, gem investors, and thoughtful buyers to make a confident acquisition that combines rarity, scientific verification, and artisanal cutting excellence.
