Born in the slow, quiet geology of Africa, this amethyst began as a pocket of purple waiting to be found, a crystal that captured light and time as it grew. Miners working by practiced eye and steady hand recovered the rough, and from that raw promise our cutters selected a particularly transparent crystal with unusually concentrated color. It is rare to find amethyst of this intensity in a stone that exceeds one carat while remaining so clear, and the decision to fashion it into a heart shape was both romantic and exacting. The finished gem weighs 1.05 carat, measures 7.08 x 7.07 x 4.35 mm, and carries a mixed brilliant cut that returns light with lively sparkle. Its clarity grade is very slightly included, evaluated at eye level, which means it reads as visually clean to most observers while still telling the honest story of its natural origin. The color intensity is intense, the polish excellent, and the piece has been gently heat treated to stabilize and enhance the rich purple tones that make it stand out among similar specimens.
When this stone arrived at The Natural Gemstone Company it went straight to our master cutter, who balanced preservation of weight with the need for a perfectly symmetrical heart. Cutting a heart at this size requires rare skill because the pavilion angles and lobes must meet precisely to produce an even, vibrant face up color and maximum brilliance. Our mixed brilliant pattern was chosen to emphasize the stone’s transparency and to give a lively play of light across the heart silhouette, making the gem appear larger than its modest dimensions might suggest. Heat treatment has been applied in a controlled manner to enhance the vivid purple without obscuring the crystal’s natural character, and the excellent polish allows the surface to sing under any light. Stones of this size and intensity are uncommon, and when combined with the romantic heart shape they become exceptional choices for a statement pendant, an intimate engagement jewel, or an heirloom piece that will carry its African origin as part of its story. If you would like personal advice on setting, certification, or seeing this gem in person, I am here to guide you through every step, and to ensure that this rare purple heart finds the setting it deserves at The Natural Gemstone Company.
