From the sun warmed hills of Brazil to the palm of your hand, this pear shaped amethyst carries the slow, patient story of earth made visible. Formed over millions of years as silica rich fluids filled fractures in volcanic rock, this transparent 17.92 carat gem was carefully recovered from Brazilian deposits that have long been celebrated for producing fine purple quartz. The stone measures 22.01 by 16.08 by 8.83 mm, its medium purple tone recalling lavender fields at dusk, and it retains its natural character with no enhancement. At the cutting table the rough was entrusted to a master lapidary who revealed its inner light with a checkerboard cut, each facet planned to catch and scatter color, and the result is an excellent polish that sings when it catches a beam of light. The clarity has been graded very very slightly included when evaluated at eye level, meaning the stone appears brilliantly clean to the eye, while still carrying the tiny inclusions that speak to its genuine geological origin and unique personality.
Beyond its beauty this amethyst offers reassuring durability for wearable creations, it is quartz with a Mohs hardness of 7, making it more scratch resistant than many softer gems such as opal or fluorite, and suitable for everyday jewelry when set with care, while remaining less hard than corundum and diamond which sit higher on the Mohs scale. Its checkerboard faceting softens reflected light and enhances depth, ideal for a single statement ring or a pendant that draws the eye and the heart. The Natural Gemstone Company is proud to present this natural, untreated amethyst as a piece that connects ancient geological time with contemporary design, a gem that carries a storied origin, expert craftsmanship, and the quiet authority of authentic color, ready to be set into a piece that will be treasured for years to come.
