Deep beneath the weathered hills of Brazil, silica rich fluids threaded their way through cracks and cavities, cooling slowly to form the crystalline foundations of this amethyst, a stone that holds the slow artistry of geological time. Hand recovered from Brazilian deposits, the rough was chosen for its clarity and rich purple saturation, then entrusted to a master cutter who revealed its inner fire. The result is a beautiful transparent 35.25 carat cushion shape amethyst, with dimensions of 21.70 by 19.00 by 12.90 mm, fashioned with a mixed brilliant cut to balance light return and depth of color. Evaluated as eye clean at normal viewing distance, with an intense color intensity and an excellent polish, the gem was heat treated to enhance and stabilize its purple hue, a standard and fully disclosed enhancement that brings out the jewel like tones without compromising its integrity. The cutter followed natural zoning, orienting facets to emphasize the stone center, creating flashes of violet and deep plum, while completing precise pavilion work to ensure scintillation and a smooth, lustrous surface, a transformation from a river tumbled crystal to a gem ready for a setting worthy of its size and presence.
Amethyst carries a long and noble heritage, prized by ancient Greeks and Romans, worn by medieval bishops, and favored by royalty for its regal purple, making it a gemstone associated historically with clarity of mind and ceremonial importance. In many cultures it was used in signet rings and amulets, set in gold and silver for use at court and altar alike, and later as the birthstone of those born in February, a tradition that endures today. At The Natural Gemstone Company we honor that lineage by combining ethical sourcing from Brazil with artisanal cutting techniques that respect both the earth and the craft. This stone invites a variety of classic settings, from a bold cocktail ring to a refined pendant, each design allowing the cushion form and mixed brilliant facets to sing. If you seek a centerpiece that speaks of history, geology, and human skill, this amethyst bridges those worlds, ready to be set into an heirloom quality piece that will carry its story forward.
