Product description

This 1.33 carat aquamarine, presented by The Natural Gemstone Company, is a transparent, radiant shaped gem with precise dimensions of 6.44 by 6.25 by 5.28 millimeters. The gem exhibits a light blue color intensity typical of fine Tanzanian aquamarine, with no enhancement applied to alter its natural tone. The clarity is graded included at eye level, indicating the presence of internal features visible to the unaided eye, and the cutting and polishing have been executed to an excellent standard. The radiant cut selection was intentional, combining the crisp silhouette of an octagonal outline with trimmed corners and a dense array of finely registered facets, producing a controlled balance between table size and facet density to optimize light return for a beryl with modest dispersion.

From a faceting perspective, this stone leverages the hybrid nature of the radiant cut to exceptional effect. The crown is fashioned with a series of small, well proportioned brilliant facets that act as efficient light collectors, channeling incident light through the broad table into the pavilion. The pavilion employs a compact, multi facet brilliant arrangement rather than long step facets, increasing internal reflection pathways and generating numerous return vectors for incident photons. The stone depth relative to face dimensions results in a deeper pavilion profile than many shallow cuts, which enhances the number of internal reflections and increases apparent brilliance per unit weight, while sacrificing some face up spread. Facet junctions are sharp and symmetry is maintained across the octagonal outline, ensuring consistent contrast patterning across the face up view when the gem is rotated under light.

Optically, aquamarine is a low dispersion beryl with a refractive index range that yields bright white return rather than strong spectral fire. This specimen compensates for the intrinsic dispersion limitations through structural design and surface finish. The excellent polish minimizes surface scattering and maximizes specular reflection at each facet plane, permitting crisp pinpoints of scintillation and broad flashes of brilliance as the gem moves. The relatively low birefringence of aquamarine moderates doubling effects, so the viewer perceives a coherent and stable window through the crown into the pavilion. The included clarity grade indicates visible internal features, yet the cutter oriented these inclusions to positions that minimally interrupt primary light paths, preserving a clean table window and allowing the hybrid brilliant pavilion to create multiple internal echoes that read as depth and sparkle. The natural blue results from iron related chromophores in the host beryl, and absence of heat or irradiation enhancement means the hue and zoning are the original, geological signature of Tanzanian formation.

In practical settings the stone benefits from mounts that respect the trimmed corners and deep pavilion geometry, allowing the radiant outline to sit securely while exposing the crown to illumination. Four or six prong settings that cradle the corners, or tailored bezel settings that follow the octagonal shape while leaving the crown open, will preserve the engineered light performance. For jewelry design the gem favors a setting that emphasizes table exposure and permits rotational movement to showcase the dynamic scintillation pattern produced by the dense pavilion facet network. At The Natural Gemstone Company we document the untreated origin and precise measurements to help bench jewelers and connoisseurs predict weight retention and optical behavior during mounting. The resulting visual effect from the combination of radiant hybrid faceting, exacting polish, and naturally sourced Tanzanian color is a sparkle profile that is deceptively lively for a beryl, delivering an appearance that reads as both refined brilliance and crystalline clarity.
