From the warm, weathered soils of Ceylon, now Sri Lanka, a small parcel of rough chrysoberyl began a long, measured journey that speaks of time, pressure, and the patient artistry of the earth. Deep in the island sierra, pockets of crystalline growth slowly formed, capturing subtle brown and green tones that weather and light would later reveal. Our cutters at The Natural Gemstone Company traced that natural history with respect, selecting a single, translucent crystal whose inherent color and clarity merited a cabochon treatment. Why a cabochon, rather than a faceted cut, you might ask. This choice was deliberate, it honors the stone s gentle translucence and midtone color intensity, allowing light to pool and glow within the gem. At 0.67 carat the oval shape balances a wearable size with a degree of rarity that is often overlooked. Weight in chrysoberyl is more than a number, it is the measure of presence and value, and at close to seven tenths of a carat this gem occupies a special place where availability thins and collector interest rises.
In the lapidary studio the rough was coaxed into an elegant oval, a pleasing 5.56 by 3.58 by 3.34 millimeters, with surfaces polished to an excellent finish that sings when the light passes over it. The clarity is graded very slightly included at eye level, which means the stone reads as clean to the viewer while retaining natural character that confirms its authenticity. No enhancement has been applied, so the gem we present is true to its origin, unaltered and honest in color and tone. That unenhanced 0.67 carat weight adds tangible value because natural, slightly larger stones of chrysoberyl from Ceylon are uncommon, and price per carat often steps up as weight increases. This piece will sit beautifully in a ring or pendant, its cabochon silhouette flattering to settings that favor depth of color over sparkle, and its durable nature fitting for daily wear. At The Natural Gemstone Company we cherish the story each stone brings, and this brownish green chrysoberyl carries the quiet legacy of its island birthplace, the careful hand of a master cutter, and a weight that makes it both a rare find and a meaningful choice.
