Born in the weathered hills and alluvial plains of Ceylon Sri Lanka this chrysoberyl began its life deep within metamorphic rocks where heat and pressure coaxed aluminium and beryllium into a hard and lustrous crystal, then years of erosion and river action freed it to the hands of miners who have worked these lands for generations, this particular stone presents as a beautiful translucent greenish yellow oval weighing 2.18 carat, with dimensions of 7.58 by 5.43 by 5.03 millimeters, shaped by skilled cutters into a classic cabochon to honor its natural optical gifts, the cutter preserved the intense color intensity and achieved an excellent polish, the gem is evaluated as slightly included at eye level which attests to its natural origin, there is no enhancement, and the result is a compact jewel that carries both the sunlight warmed tones of Sri Lanka and the history of the ground from which it came.
The visible inclusions within this cabochon are not flaws to hide, they are unique identifiers that tell the story of the stone, fine parallel needle like features and fibrous structures aligned within the chrysoberyl create the cat's eye effect known as chatoyancy, when light meets these parallel threads a single sharp band of reflected light appears to glide across the surface, in this gem the band shows as a luminous silvery white stripe that bisects the dome and moves with the angle of viewing and the direction of illumination, the band is crisply defined thanks to the careful oval cabochon cutting and it gives the stone a living quality as if a tiny eye watches and responds to motion, inclusions also provide a fingerprint that gemologists and collectors recognize as evidence of natural formation and provenance, wearing this cat's eye chrysoberyl connects you to the rivers and workshops of Ceylon Sri Lanka and to a tradition of craftsmanship, The Natural Gemstone Company presents this stone for the client who values authenticity and story, it will sit beautifully in a protective bezel for everyday wear or as the centerpiece of a bespoke piece where the chatoyant band can be aligned to create drama and meaning.
