Product description

This is a single, transparent, round shape yellow citrine weighing 3.78 carats, with dimensions 10.96 x 10.96 x 6.54 mm, faceted in a mixed brilliant cut to maximize return of light and lively scintillation. The gem carries a clarity grade described as very very slightly included evaluated at eye level, which for practical purposes means the stone is eye clean and shows only the finest internal characteristics under magnification. Color intensity is intense, giving a saturated golden yellow presence that reads beautifully face up, while the polish has been certified as excellent so that facet junctions are crisp and surface reflections are sharp. There has been no enhancement to this material, the crystal is natural, and it originates from Brazil, a well known and respected source for gem quality citrine. At this scale and with this finish, the gem is ideal for a statement ring or a pendant where the warm golden tone can play against metals such as 18 karat yellow gold or warm rose gold, and the size will remain comfortably wearable because quartz has a hardness that stands up to regular use.

From a gemological perspective this citrine is representative of high quality quartz, with refractive index values in the range of approximately 1.544 to 1.553 and birefringence on the order of approximately 0.009, values that produce a clear, lively window for light to travel through the stone. Specific gravity is approximately 2.65, and Mohs hardness is seven, which gives the stone substantial resistance to daily wear while still being easier to shape into an optically efficient mixed brilliant than many harder materials. The mixed brilliant cut chosen for this gem combines a brilliant crown with a pavilion optimized for light return, so even with the modest dispersion intrinsic to quartz the overall visual result is bright, energetic, and full of scintillation. The very very slightly included clarity at eye level means minimal impact on transparency, allowing the intense golden hue to saturate evenly across the table without visible clouding, and the excellent polish ensures that light provided to the stone is reflected cleanly back to the viewer rather than scattered by surface imperfections.

When compared to more commonly encountered yellow gemstones this citrine offers a distinct proposition for an educated buyer who is weighing optical performance, origin, and treatment history. Compared to yellow sapphire, which has a higher refractive index and a different kind of brilliance, citrine shows a softer, more luminous glow that emphasizes warm saturation rather than the crystalline brilliance of corundum. Compared to natural golden topaz, which can exhibit stronger dispersion and a different luster, citrine delivers a more honeyed and gemmy tone with consistently even color and with the advantage in many examples of being untreated. Diamonds will always outperform other gems in terms of fire and brilliance because of their very high refractive index and strong dispersion, but the visual impression of this citrine is not one of attempted imitation, it is a celebration of warm, saturated color combined with lively facet play that is optimized by expert cutting. For collectors and designers who value provenance and untreated material, this Brazilian citrine from The Natural Gemstone Company represents a desirable combination of substantive carat weight, clean gemological properties, and excellent cutting and finishing. It stands out because the mix of an intense natural color, eye level clarity, no enhancement, and a precisely executed mixed brilliant cut produces a piece that reads as luxurious on the finger, while remaining an intelligent and responsible purchase relative to more costly alternatives.
