Product description

This 5.46 carat round yellow citrine from Brazil presents as a transparent, medium saturated gemstone with dimensions 11.39 x 11.34 x 7.88 mm. The piece is faceted in a mixed brilliant style that combines a brilliant crown geometry with a modified pavilion architecture to optimize light return while preserving color depth. Clarity is graded as very slightly included evaluated at eye level, with minute internal features confined to facet junctions that do not interrupt the visual transparency or detract from the stone performance under typical viewing distances. Color intensity is medium, offering a warm golden yellow saturation that reads consistently across the table and through the pavilion, and the surface finish has been executed to an excellent polish. No enhancement has been applied to this specimen, and the origin is Brazil, a locality known for producing well crystallized quartz varieties with stable natural coloration.

The cutter at The Natural Gemstone Company employed precise faceting geometry to balance scintillation with color saturation. The round mixed brilliant design uses a larger than average table to present a vivid face up color while the modified pavilion depth was deliberately calculated to lengthen the optical path through the gem body. This deeper pavilion increases the effective absorption and scattering of wavelengths influenced by iron chromophores thereby enhancing perceived warmth without compromising overall brightness. Crown facets including star, kite, and upper girdle elements were oriented to create controlled flash and a floral facet pattern in the table area, while pavilion facets were shaped to foster return of light into the viewer plane rather than channeling light away. Girdle proportions were left at a slightly robust thickness to allow secure setting without introducing extraneous light leakage. Final lapidary steps utilized progressively finer diamond laps and a final polish with diamond paste to remove any bruting lines and achieve the excellent surface smoothness seen in the images. Symmetry is tight, resulting in even facet junctions and predictable optical performance when set in a ring or pendant.

To understand how this citrine achieved its color and form one must read a geological history that spans millions of years. Silica rich fluids migrating through host rock in pegmatitic and hydrothermal environments deposited quartz crystals within open vugs and fissures, and trace iron within those fluids became incorporated into the quartz lattice. Slow crystallization under low to moderate temperatures allowed iron to oxidize to states that impart yellow to golden hues rather than the purple tones associated with other chromophoric conditions. Over geologic time the crystals were buried, subjected to varying pressure and temperature regimes, and then gradually uplifted by tectonic processes that exposed the Brazilian deposits to erosion and collection. The particular crystal that became this 5.46 carat faceted gem displayed exceptional clarity and a homogeneous iron distribution, attributes that permitted cutting without the need for heat enhancement or irradiation. The result is a natural citrine whose optical character reflects both its deep time origins and the modern precision of cutting. For discerning gem collectors who value traceable provenance and masterful lapidary technique, this yellow citrine from The Natural Gemstone Company represents a technically refined and geologically authentic example ready to be set in jewelry that will showcase its luminous golden tone and well engineered brilliance.
