Product description

Long before human hands learned to shape stone into ornament, there was fire, pressure, and patient geological time. Deep within the crust of the Ural Mountains, where the collision of ancient plates forced hot fluids through fractured rock, conditions favored the birth of andradite garnet that would become the rare demantoid. Over millions of years, silica rich fluids met iron and calcium bearing host rocks, and trace amounts of chromium found their way into the growing crystal lattice. Those chromium atoms are the alchemy that lends demantoid its vivid green, a color that seems to hold the memory of ancient forests and the northern light. As layers of metamorphosed rock folded and were slowly exposed, these crystals were freed from their matrix, surviving extreme temperatures and slow cooling, their internal structure recording an epoch of Earth history. Each facet of a demantoid is a miniature map of time, a compact chronicle of pressure and fluid chemistry, and this particular stone carried its story from the Russian heartland to the modern lapidary studio where it was liberated and readied for adornment.

This 0.23 carat pear shape green demantoid garnet measures 4.72 by 3.10 by 2.04 mm, and its mixed brilliant cut is designed to translate the gem s inner fire into scintillating brilliance. The cutter balanced crown facets with a finely faceted pavilion to maximize both depth and sparkle, resulting in a stone that returns light with lively dispersion and a crisp, jewel like flash. Evaluated at eye level the clarity grade is very very slightly included, a testament to the clean genesis of this crystal, and the surface shows an excellent polish that allows the vivid color intensity to read true through every facet. There has been no enhancement, the color and clarity are natural, and the origin is Russia, a region renowned for producing demantoids of unmatched character. In the palm and under a jeweler s loupe this gem displays the transparency that collectors and connoisseurs prize, while its modest size and classic pear shape make it immediately appropriate for refined, everyday jewelry or a statement heirloom piece.

For centuries Russian demantoids were coveted by royalty and artisans alike, admired for a green so lively that it could compete with emerald while offering greater brilliance and durability. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries these gems adorned imperial pieces and Fabergé creations, bridging the craft of gemstone cutting and the opulence of couture jewelry. Owning a demantoid is therefore more than possessing a colored stone, it is to hold an object that connects to a lineage of taste and tradition, from remote geological processes to the salons and workshops of history. This pear shaped gem speaks to those who value legacy, individuals who prefer a piece with a clear provenance and a story to tell at every glance. Its size encourages intimate settings, a pendant that hangs close to the heart, a ring that catches the eye with every gesture, or a pair of earrings that whisper elegance rather than shout.

At The Natural Gemstone Company we honor the long journey of each stone, and this Russian demantoid is presented with full respect for its origin, its natural state, and its potential to become an heirloom. Our gemologists have graded and documented its qualities, and our cutters and polishers have preserved the integrity of the crystal while enhancing its optical performance. Imagine this vivid green pear set in warm gold to amplify its forest like depth, or in cool platinum to emphasize its brilliant sparkle, each setting translating ancient earth into personal legacy. If you seek a gem that blends geological romance with refined craftsmanship, this demantoid offers both a tangible piece of history and a timeless jewel that will carry its story for generations.
