This alexandrite began its life deep within the storied gem gravels of Ceylon Sri Lanka, where centuries of skilled miners have long known how to coax beauty from the earth. The rough crystal that became this ring was selected for its rare and dramatic color potential, a personality that shifts from a yellowish green to a brownish orange depending on the light. Weighing 2.04 carats and shaped into an elegant oval measuring 7.41 by 6.36 by 5.09 mm, the stone carried the promise of both vivid color and lively sparkle. From extraction to cutting, every stage honored the stone as a living thing, a gem with memory and movement. In the cutting studio the decision to fashion this alexandrite with a mixed brilliant cut was deliberate, it was chosen to amplify the stone s inherent color change while maximizing light return, and to preserve the exceptional saturation and clarity that marked this piece from the start.
The mixed brilliant cut on this oval alexandrite is where geology meets geometry, the crown receives a constellation of brilliant facets that catch and scatter light, while the pavilion is faceted to channel that light back through the table, creating a lively inner fire. The cutter balanced table size and crown height to allow a generous window into the gem without sacrificing scintillation, and the pavilion facets were sculpted with precise angles to encourage internal reflection, so that each movement produces flashes of brilliancy and a subtle interplay of green and orange tones. The oval outline adds a graceful elongation, allowing the faceting pattern to play across the length of the stone, producing a sense of motion when it is viewed from different angles. Clarity was assessed as very very slightly included when evaluated at eye level, and the surface polish was judged excellent, details that ensure the light is not interrupted as it dances through the gem. There is no enhancement, the color, tone, and saturation are the result of nature and masterful cutting, working together to transform a rare rough into a living jewel.
Set within a refined 14K white gold mount, the alexandrite is flanked by two white round natural diamonds, their combined weight approximately 0.036 carats, their clarity graded very slightly included corresponding to VS1 and VS2, their color graded F. These small companions were selected to provide crisp, cool flashes that contrast and complement the alexandrite s warm and green shifts, they sit at the shoulders to frame the center stone without competing with it. The white gold setting was finished to a bright, mirror like polish that echoes the gem s luminous qualities, and the bezel and shoulder design lifts the oval gem just enough to allow light to enter and return, enhancing both brilliance and color change. Every facet of the mounting was considered with the same attention given to the cut, the proportions and angles of the setting work in concert with the mixed brilliant faceting to optimize light performance and wearability.
When you wear this ring, you wear a story that begins in the ancient soils of Ceylon Sri Lanka, moves through the hands of experienced cutters who tuned angles and facets to coax out the maximum brilliance, and ends in a ring crafted to celebrate the stone s shifting heart. The alexandrite s intense color saturation makes each glance a new discovery, and the mixed brilliant cut ensures that discovery is always accompanied by lively sparkle. This piece is a testament to thoughtful sourcing and meticulous craftsmanship, it is designed to become part of your own story, to be worn on moments that matter, to be passed on and admired. The Natural Gemstone Company is proud to present this ring, a union of rare material and exacting cut, and we invite you to experience how precise faceting can transform light into the kind of brilliance that stops time.
