From the alluvial gravels of Ceylon this translucent white moonstone began its journey as a rough nodule recovered by experienced gem collectors, then routed to our selection room at The Natural Gemstone Company where trained graders assessed its optical potential, inclusions, and size. The decision to execute a cabochon cut was driven by the stone character, its near colorless body tone, and the desire to maximize adularescence while preserving weight. Lapidaries worked the rough with incremental grinding and fine sanding to achieve a precise round outline, arriving at final dimensions of 7.59 by 7.59 by 3.89 millimeters, and a finished weight of 1.41 carat. The dome profile was shaped to balance a pronounced internal sheen with structural stability, resulting in a depth to diameter ratio of approximately fifty one percent which enhances the floating light effect without compromising the stone stability in bezel or prong settings. All work was performed without thermal or chemical enhancement, so the piece remains wholly natural, and a final polishing sequence produced an excellent polished surface that reveals the stone translucency and internal texture.
From a gemological perspective this example exhibits a clarity grade of slightly included when viewed at eye level, consistent with fine moonstone material where elongated feldspar inclusions create the characteristic billowy patterns. The near colorless color intensity provides broad versatility for designers who want a neutral base while retaining soft luminosity, and the round cabochon form offers symmetrical light return and ease of mounting. The smooth girdle and slightly rounded base are suited to bezel settings that protect the dome, or to custom open back mounts that emphasize translucency. For clients who appreciate technical details, the cabochon cut preserves maximum material and the skilled lapidary faceting of the dome maintains a continuous, even curvature which is essential for even adularescence. Provenance from Sri Lanka was documented at acquisition, and The Natural Gemstone Company stands behind this stone with transparent sourcing information and condition reporting. For bespoke jewelry applications or for collectors who value untreated, well finished material, this moonstone combines measured proportions, skilled craftsmanship, and natural optical character ready to be set into a refined piece.
