This translucent 10.00 carat oval shape white moonstone measures 16.09 x 11.67 x 7.11 mm, and it is presented in a classic cabochon cut to maximize its adularescence. The gem displays a near colorless intensity, a clarity grade of very slightly included evaluated at eye level, and an excellent polish. There are no enhancements, and the piece is responsibly sourced from Ceylon Sri Lanka. The Natural Gemstone Company documents this moonstone with precise measurements and grading details to ensure transparency and confidence in its natural attributes.
The stone began forming millions of years ago within high grade metamorphic terrain enriched in potassium feldspar and albite, a setting characteristic of parts of Ceylon Sri Lanka. Under prolonged tectonic stress and elevated temperatures, molten and partially melted feldspar bodies underwent slow cooling, promoting exsolution and the development of microscopic lamellar layers. These alternating layers of orthoclase and albite, aligned with the crystalline lattice, are responsible for the stone lighting from within as light scatters between the lamellae. Over geologic time, metamorphic recrystallization and episodic hydrothermal activity contributed to the refinement of the feldspar structure, reducing impurities and creating the translucent body that allows adularescence to be visible when the cabochon is turned to catch the light.
Once recovered from its host rock, the rough moonstone was carefully evaluated and cut to reveal its internal schiller without compromising the gem material. The oval cabochon proportions were selected to balance size and optical effect, producing a broad, luminous sheen with minimal inclusions affecting the visual field. The clarity is described as very slightly included evaluated at eye level because inclusions are present but do not significantly disrupt the adularescent phenomenon. Its excellent polish and symmetrical oval profile allow consistent light return, showcasing the inherent qualities established during its long geological formation. The Natural Gemstone Company provides this moonstone as a clear example of natural mineralogical processes, with documented origin, no enhancements, and professional finishing to preserve its geological story.
