This piece is a transparent 3.18 carat round shape blue flash moonstone, cut as a cabochon, measuring 9.14 x 9.25 x 5.83 mm. The cutting style is cabochon with an excellent polish, clarity graded as very slightly included evaluated at eye level, and a light color intensity. Origin is Madagascar, and there is no enhancement. The cabochon profile is specifically designed to maximize the moonstone’s characteristic optical phenomenon. The domed surface presents a continuous, uninterrupted plane to incident light, reducing surface scattering and allowing light to penetrate and interact with the internal lamellar structure. As light strikes the stone, selective interference and scattering between thin alternating layers within the crystal produce a concentrated, coherent adularescence. The rounded geometry channels and redistributes light across the dome, enhancing the apparent depth of the blue flash and allowing the sheen to appear to float beneath the surface rather than merely lying on top of it. The precise dome height relative to the diameter preserves a balanced tradeoff between the stone’s transparency and the intensity of the adularescence, delivering a vivid flash without obscuring clarity.
The very slightly included clarity grade contributes to the character without materially interrupting the adularescent effect. Minor internal features are situated so they do not break the lamellar interference pattern, and the stone’s transparency permits the soft glow to travel freely across internal planes. The excellent polish further refines the optical performance by minimizing microfaceting and surface diffusion, so the adularescence reads as a clean, mobile band of light. Viewed in changing light and at different angles, the blue flash moves across or beneath the surface, presenting a soft, floating glow that shifts in intensity and position. This dynamism is an intrinsic property of the material rather than a result of treatments, and it is preserved by the no enhancement status of the stone. Presented by The Natural Gemstone Company, this moonstone offers a measured combination of precise dimensions, refined cutting, and natural adularescence, suitable for settings that emphasize optical depth and subtle motion.
