Product description

This 17.14 carat oval peach morganite presents a balance of size, symmetry, and refined finish, suitable for both collectors and connoisseurs of fine colored gemstones. The gem measures 17.48 x 13.01 x 10.07 mm, a substantial profile for an oval, and is fashioned in a mixed brilliant cut to harmonize table scintillation with pavilion light return. The tone registers as faint in color intensity, a delicate peach that changes subtly with lighting conditions, and clarity is graded as very slightly included when viewed at eye level. Surface finish is of an excellent polish, contributing to a clean, satiny luster across the facets. This specimen has been heat treated, an accepted and stable enhancement in the trade, and it is sourced from Brazil. The Natural Gemstone Company has selected and documented this stone to provide transparent information about its physical and treatment attributes.

The genesis of this morganite began deep within the Earth millions of years ago, in a geological environment shaped by slow crystallization and persistent flux of mineral rich fluids. Morganite is a member of the beryl family, and its formation requires a rare convergence of silica rich pegmatitic melts and volatile components that promote large crystal growth. In the evolving pegmatite body, pockets of residual melt became enriched in beryllium, along with traces of manganese and other elements. Manganese ions incorporated into the crystal lattice imparted the soft peach hue that characterizes this stone. Over geological time scales, gradual cooling allowed crystals to develop with well defined planes, and intermittent pulses of hydrothermal activity annealed the structure, producing the internal clarity and coherent crystal habit that enable a cutter to extract a single large, clean facet arrangement.

Subsequent to its birth in the pegmatite, tectonic uplift and erosional processes delivered the morganite to secondary deposits where careful mining recovered gem quality material. The selection and cutting stage is critical to realizing the gem’s potential. The mixed brilliant cut applied to this piece was chosen to emphasize optical return while respecting the stone’s natural color zoning and inclusional landscape. At 17.14 carats and the stated dimensions, the cutter balanced pavilion depth and crown angles to optimize brilliance without sacrificing face up spread. The very slightly included clarity grade indicates small internal features that are detectable to a trained eye at normal viewing distance, but that do not detract from overall transparency or from the visual impact when set. Heat treatment was applied with controlled parameters to gently refine the peach tone, a standard practice in the industry that enhances color stability without compromising the gem’s inherent structure.

For practical use and long term enjoyment, this morganite offers a combination of visual presence and manageable durability. Beryl family gems occupy the mid to upper range on the Mohs hardness scale, and with conscientious care this stone is suitable for engagement rings, pendants, and statement pieces that are worn with attention to impact and abrasion. Recommended care includes avoiding prolonged exposure to harsh chemicals, mechanical shocks, and rapid temperature changes. Routine cleaning with warm water, mild detergent, and a soft brush is effective, and professional inspection prior to setting will ensure proper mounting that protects the girdle and edges. The Natural Gemstone Company provides certification of origin and treatment history for this morganite, and can advise on mounting options that preserve the stone’s polish and optical performance. In summary, this 17.14 carat peach morganite embodies a natural history that spans deep time, and a crafted history of human skill that reveals its color and clarity in wearable form.
