Product description

This matched pair of Burmese peridot presents a clear, technically precise example of lapidary control and material selection. The stones weigh 2.82 carats and 3.09 carats respectively, and are fashioned into ovals with dimensions 10.04 by 8.12 by 5.06 millimeters, and 10.07 by 7.93 by 5.73 millimeters. Both are cut as mixed brilliant styles, combining a brilliant facet arrangement on the crown with a modified pavilion plan that enhances return and scintillation. Clarity is graded eye clean at standard viewing distance, indicating no inclusions detectable to the unaided eye, and color is described as yellowish green with intense saturation. Surface finish is reported as excellent polish, and the material has been enhanced by heat treatment. Origin is Burma Myanmar, and provenance and matching were prepared under the quality control protocols of The Natural Gemstone Company.

From a faceting and proportion standpoint these peridots demonstrate deliberate decisions to balance face up spread with light performance. The first gem has a mean girdle diameter of approximately nine point zero eight millimeters and a pavilion depth that yields a depth ratio of approximately fifty five point seven percent. The second gem has a mean girdle diameter near nine point zero millimeters and a deeper pavilion, yielding a depth ratio near sixty three point seven percent. The mixed brilliant cut used here allows the cutter to vary pavilion geometry while preserving a consistent crown facet architecture. The crown presents a conventional brilliant crown with table and star facets sized to optimize color saturation without sacrificing brightness. The pavilion uses a combination of gemological step and kite facets that, in each stone, were tuned to return a similar amount of light to the viewer despite the slightly different internal volumes. Excellent polish and clean facet junctions reduce light leakage and contribute to crisp facet reflections and lively scintillation.

Matching these two pieces required a multistage workflow that prioritized color match and optical performance over absolute parity of weight. During rough selection material that shared consistent chromophore distribution and a close refractive index envelope was chosen, reducing the need to compensate for zoned color during cutting. The cutter then established a common crown angle platform and synchronized table diameters so the face up appearances would remain cohesive when paired in jewelry. Slight differences in pavilion depth were tolerated because they were compensated by subtle adjustments to pavilion facet angles and culet treatment, producing comparable brilliance and a harmonious patterning of light across the pairs table. The heat treatment was applied prior to final cutting and polishing to stabilize the intense yellowish green hue and to minimize any peripheral color zoning. Final symmetry grading focused on matching axis alignment and table centering, so the optical center and star pattern read nearly identical when the stones are viewed side by side.

For practical use and setting considerations these peridots are ideal for matched earrings, paired side stones in a two stone ring, or complementary accents in a three stone design. The oval proportions are conservative enough to permit conventional bezel, prong, or partial bezel settings while preserving the stone geometries established during cutting. Mounting should allow for minimal table contact and avoid excessive pressure at the girdle, which would be the mechanical stress point given the slightly deeper pavilion on the larger piece. As with all peridot, avoid prolonged exposure to strong chemicals and very high heat during setting. The Natural Gemstone Company has documented the cutting parameters and treatment history for these stones, and can provide exact facet maps and optical imagery upon request for designers who require CAD integration or matched setting templates. This pair represents a considered trade off between material yield and optical uniformity, and reflects a disciplined approach to matching color, clarity, and light performance for discerning, technically minded clients.
