From its first exposure in a Tanzanian outcrop to the carefully finished gemstone we present, this peridot carries a clear provenance and a geological story. Formed in the upper mantle and brought closer to the surface by volcanic activity, the rough crystal was recovered from artisanal workings in Tanzania, where local miners selectively extract gem quality olivine crystals. At The Natural Gemstone Company we source responsibly, tracing shipments through documented channels, and this 0.91 carat specimen retained its natural character throughout its journey. The rough presented an attractive lime green tone with high saturation, and our choice to retain the natural color without any heating or irradiation ensures the stone remains unenhanced, authentic, and stable for long term wear.
The decision to execute an emerald cut for this piece was driven by both the crystal habit and the desire to maximize apparent color and clarity. Emerald cutting is a precise step cutting technique, it emphasizes broad, linear facets on the crown and pavilion, it produces a large table that showcases color in even planes, and it reduces the risk of windowing that can desaturate lighter tones. The finished dimensions are 6.27 by 4.85 by 3.75 millimeters, and the gem was calibrated to 0.91 carats with strict attention to pavilion angles and girdle symmetry. During cutting the orientation of the crystal axes was selected to minimize the visibility of internal features when viewed at normal angles, this produced a clarity described as very slightly included when evaluated at eye level, inclusions are minimal and do not detract from the overall transparency or the intense lime green presence.
Optical performance was refined through facet geometry and meticulous polish, the excellent polish applied to both crown and pavilion facets eliminates surface disturbance, it enhances light transmission and preserves crisp facet junctions that are critical for the step cut appearance. Peridot exhibits a refractive index range typically around 1.65 to 1.69, and a measurable birefringence close to 0.036 to 0.038, these inherent properties contribute to the subtle doubling effect on facet edges and to the depth of color seen through the large table. The intense color intensity in this specimen manifests as a vivid lime green with strong chroma and medium tone, the emerald cut yields broad flashes of color rather than scintillation, making the hue the principal visual asset. Hardness around 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale and a specific gravity near 3.34 inform setting choices and care, professional setting with protective bezel or secure prong work is recommended for daily wear.
When this peridot arrived at our bench it underwent final inspection under controlled lighting and loupe magnification, measurements were confirmed, the polish grade and symmetry were validated, and our internal documentation records the origin as Tanzania and the enhancement status as none. The Natural Gemstone Company presents this emerald cut peridot as both a collector grade gem and an exceptional candidate for bespoke jewelry, its intense lime green color pairs well with warm metal tones such as yellow gold and rose gold for contrast, while white gold or platinum emphasizes clean, contemporary lines. For connoisseurs who value natural, traceable material, this gem balances technical excellence with a clear supply chain story, and it is delivered with our standards of packaging and documentation to support appraisal and insurance.
