Product description

This fine Burmese peridot from The Natural Gemstone Company is a transparent round, weighing 0.94 carat, with precise dimensions of 5.88 by 5.91 by 4.21 millimeters. The gem is executed in a checkerboard cut on the crown, paired with a conventional faceted pavilion, producing a mosaic of small, angular facets across the table that actively breaks and returns light. The cutter has retained a comparatively deep pavilion relative to the diameter, resulting in a depth of approximately seventy one percent, a proportion that increases face up color saturation while preserving lively internal reflections. Clarity is graded as very slightly included when evaluated at eye level, meaning inclusions are minor and do not materially interrupt overall light performance or dispersion, and polish is described as excellent, with facet junctions showing crisp meet points and minimal facet abrasion. Enhancement status is none, the material is natural and untreated, and documented origin is Burma Myanmar, a provenance that in this instance correlates with the vivid, yellowish green hue presented.

Optically the stone exhibits a vivid color intensity, with the hue centered on a yellowish green axis, and a tone that sits in the medium to medium strong range due to the deliberate depth and cutting strategy. The checkerboard crown increases localized scintillation and creates dynamic flashes of lighter and darker green across the table, allowing the yellow component of the hue to appear more luminous in direct light and the green axis to read more saturated in oblique viewing angles. Peridot has a refractive index cluster approximately between 1.650 and 1.690 and birefringence near 0.036, properties that this specimen manifests as a combination of strong single color orientation and lively internal sparkle without the color shifting seen in pleochroic gems. The balance of vivid color and very slight inclusions gives the gem an optimal trade off between purity and character for collectors who favor gemstones with natural traits rather than laboratory enhanced uniformity.

Comparatively this Burmese example reads distinctly when set beside well known peridot sources and other green gems from famous locations. San Carlos Arizona peridot often trends to an olive green or grassy green with slight brownish undertones in some material, thus it typically appears deeper and less yellow than this Burmese stone, which favors a brighter, more lime leaning yellowish green. Zabargad island Egyptian peridot historically shows pure green to slightly yellowish tones with excellent natural saturation, yet many Zabargad stones present a cooler green than this specimen, so the Burmese example reads warmer by comparison. Peridot from Pakistan and adjacent Karakoram regions can be intensely green with a hint of gold, sometimes matching the vivid intensity of this stone, but Pakistani pieces often have a marginally bluer green facet face up, making the Burmese material appear more yellow infused. When contrasted with other green gem species from noted localities, the difference becomes more instructive, emeralds from Colombia characteristically present a bluish green with deeper tone and a more complex saturated chroma, therefore Colombian emeralds appear cooler and darker than this peridot. Tsavorite garnet from East Africa has a pure green hue with a strong blue component and higher refractive brilliance, so tsavorite reads greener and less yellow when compared directly. These comparisons emphasize the distinctive yellowish green signature of this Burmese peridot, and they highlight how cutter choices and depth influence perceived tone and saturation across geographic varieties.

From a lapidary and design perspective this stone is well suited to settings that exploit its checkerboard crown and vivid color, because the cut produces large, attractive flashes across the table that read strongly in both diffused and point light. Because of the relatively deep pavilion, prong settings that allow light entry through the pavilion and under bezel rails that are kept low will maximize face up brilliance and color saturation. The noted very slightly included clarity grade allows for straightforward use in rings and pendants without the need for protective heavy bezels, provided the mount secures the girdle and does not obscure the checkerboard crown. For collectors The Natural Gemstone Company recommends certification for provenance and a setting that showcases the gem under mixed lighting to appreciate its shifting tone from luminous yellowish green to richer green in shadowed orientations. This peridot is offered untreated with documented origin from Burma Myanmar, polished to an excellent finish, and cut to preserve vivid color intensity, qualities that appeal to knowledgeable buyers seeking a technically interesting and visually striking yellowish green gem.
