This gem formed deep within the mantle, trapped in pockets of molten rock, and then was ferried upward by sudden volcanic events that carried fragments of the primitive mantle in their flows. Over geologic time this bright green mineral lay hidden, altered only by the slow cooling of the rock that housed it, until the forces of erosion and uplift exposed seams of peridot in the mountains of Afghanistan. This particular gem is a transparent 2.52 carat asscher octagon peridot, measuring 7.54 x 7.37 x 6.05 mm, with a clarity grade described as very very slightly included when evaluated at eye level, a medium color intensity, and an excellent polish.
