This transparent 1.06 carat purple spinel from Ceylon has been cut in a precise emerald cut, dimensions 6.87 by 5.01 by 3.56 mm, with a faceted step cut geometry that emphasizes linear light return and controlled color saturation. The cutter has retained a generous table and well proportioned crown and pavilion angles to balance the medium color intensity, producing a stable violet to bluish violet face up, while preserving excellent polish and crisp facet junctions. Clarity is graded very very slightly included at eye level, and there is no enhancement, which allows the natural optical properties of the spinel to be appreciated without treatment artifacts. The combination of an exacting step cutting regime and careful symmetry control yields even flashes along the pavilion steps, providing a measured scintillation that complements the gems inherent transparency.
What gives this specimen an unmistakable signature is the internal inclusion architecture, visible under modest magnification and subtly apparent to the unaided eye in specific lighting orientations. The inclusion suite is dominated by minute tabular platelets and very fine needle like growth features aligned parallel to the principal crystallographic faces, producing linear reflective bands when the stone is tilted. Interspersed among these are isolated pinpoint crystals and micro feather trains that form a faint internal network, creating a soft silk effect that deepens the core body color without materially detracting from brilliance. At certain angles the platelets act as tiny mirrors, generating pinpoints of brighter violet flashes and a delicate starburst along the step facets that is distinctive to high quality Sri Lankan spinel. These natural inclusions are consistent with unheated provenance, and they serve as a diagnostic fingerprint that experienced connoisseurs will recognize. The Natural Gemstone Company presents this spinel as an example of disciplined lapidary work married to an authentic inclusion signature, ideal for collectors and designers who value clarity and provenance, and for settings that showcase the emerald cut table where the internal pattern and polished facet planes interact to reveal the gems unique character.
