From the moment this grey spinel was born within the ancient metamorphic veins of Burma, it carried a quiet, refined character that only time and pressure can create, miners carefully recovered the rough crystal by hand, and it travelled from the rugged hills to our cutters with a story etched in each facet, our master lapidaries at The Natural Gemstone Company listened to that story, and chose a cushion shaped outline to honor the original crystal habit, the result is a transparent 1.18 carat cushion shape grey spinel with dimensions 6.24 by 5.28 by 4.46 mm, its mixed brilliant cut brings together step and brilliant facets, allowing flashes of silvered fire to play across a deep slate tone, the clarity grade is slightly included when evaluated at eye level, the color shows intense color intensity, and the polish is excellent, there is no enhancement, and the gem retains the honest provenance of Burma Myanmar.
During the cutting process the cutter sought balance between brilliance and the stone s natural depth, facets were placed to maximize light return while preserving weight, the mixed brilliant cut provides a scintillation that changes with movement, sometimes appearing almost gunmetal under soft light, and at other moments revealing a colder slate blue, the slight inclusions add a fingerprint of origin, a reminder of the earth that formed it, the finish is a mirror like polish that accentuates the cushion silhouette, and the overall presence reads as quietly elegant rather than flashy, this spinel invites designs that celebrate restraint and contrast.
Imagine this gem set as the centerpiece of a bespoke ring, framed by a halo of small white diamonds to lift the grey into sparkling luminosity, or paired with warm rose gold to create a modern vintage contrast where the metal s blush warms the stone s cool depth, for a bolder bespoke pendant consider flanking the spinel with two small green tourmalines, the green will sing against the grey, or use champagne diamonds for a soft, tonal companion that amplifies warmth while keeping the palette understated, styled with simple bezel settings the cushion shape reads architectural and contemporary, set with prongs it reads classic and heirloom worthy, whichever path you choose, The Natural Gemstone Company will guide the design so the spinel s journey from Burmese mountain to wearable art is preserved and celebrated.
