This Pinkish Red spinel began its journey deep within Tanzania, from a deposit that has produced some of the world s most sought after spinels, a landscape of metamorphic marble and shear zones where octahedral crystals form under stable pressure conditions, producing material with strong, saturated color. The rough was recovered by artisanal teams using controlled, minimal impact extraction methods, each piece hand sorted on site to separate clean, crystalline pockets from heavily included matrix. The rough that ultimately became this gemstone showed a compact crystal habit and a dense, even color distribution when examined under cross polarized light, characteristics that signaled potential for a fine faceted result. From the moment it left the mine, this specimen was tracked and documented through a chain of custody that emphasized optical integrity, non enhancement, and responsible provenance, ensuring that the material reaching our cutters retained its natural, untreated character.
At the cutting bench, the cutter prioritized orientation and weight retention, establishing a pavilion that preserved the richest red wavelengths while maintaining a balanced face up appearance, the final piece weighing 2.45 carat and measuring 8.67 x 6.24 x 5.20 mm. The cutter executed a cushion outline, chosen to harmonize with the crystal s natural cleavage planes and to maximize the visual depth inherent to the rough. The faceting is a mixed brilliant style, combining a brilliant facet scheme on the crown with a complementary pavilion geometry that controls light return and scintillation, the result is a lively interplay of pinpoint flashes and broad flashes that animate the table and crown angles. The faceting geometry was calibrated to avoid windowing and to minimize extinction, resulting in even light distribution across the table, a well proportioned girdle that secures the stone without unnecessary weight loss, and a pavilion depth tuned to return the strongest saturation of color to the viewer.
In terms of clarity and finish, this cushion spinel carries a slightly included clarity grade when evaluated at eye level, minor internal characteristics that are typical for natural spinel and that do not interfere with the stone s brilliance or face up appearance. Under magnification the inclusions read as modest crystalline features that reflect the stone s geologic growth history, they provide a fingerprint of natural origin without compromising optical performance. The color is intense, a pinkish red with strong saturation and a medium dark tone that reads as vivid in most lighting conditions, the hue sits attractively between vivid pink and true red, which allows the stone to exhibit both warmth and a fresh, lively presence. The polish was executed to an excellent standard, yielding a mirror finish across all facets, crisp facet junctions, and a polished girdle that enhances durability and setting options.
The Natural Gemstone Company is proud to present this untreated Tanzanian spinel to discerning buyers and lapidary connoisseurs, we managed the stone from its documented recovery through careful cutting and final quality assurance, ensuring an ethical and technical chain of custody. Before arriving in our collection the gem underwent a thorough visual and optical inspection including assessment of facet symmetry, table size, crown to pavilion relationships, and overall light performance, and it is offered with full disclosure of its natural, non enhanced status. This piece is ideal for a bespoke ring or pendant where its cushion silhouette and intense pinkish red color will be showcased face up, and it is equally suitable for collectors who value natural origin and technical cutting excellence. High resolution imagery and our detailed inspection report are available upon request, and our specialists can advise on mounting options that preserve the stone s proportions and optical behavior, ensuring that the finished jewelry will honor the gem s journey from Tanzanian mine to market.
