From the golden soils of Ceylon Sri Lanka to the bright light of our display case, this pair of tiger eyes carries a quiet story of earth and craft. Born where crocidolite fibers were gently replaced by silica over eons, each stone retains the layered, fibrous structure that produces that silky chatoyance admired across cultures. We sourced these pieces directly from trusted miners in Sri Lanka, choosing rough specimens that already showed the signature golden brown banding. After weighing and measuring we matched a 4.40 carat gem with a 4.28 carat companion, with dimensions of 9.98 x 10.00 x 5.72 millimeters and 9.94 x 9.95 x 5.58 millimeters respectively, both cut as round cabochons. At eye level both stones are graded opaque, color intensity not applicable, and they have received no enhancement. The result is a natural, honest pair that reflects both the geology of Ceylon and the historical reverence for tiger eye as a protective and grounding stone.
The decision to present these as cabochon cuts rather than faceted stones is deliberate and speaks to the skill of our lapidaries. Faceting disperses light into flashes and sparkle, which is ideal for transparent gems. By contrast the cabochon technique is the mature art of coaxing a stone to reveal its inner glow, and for tiger eye it is essential to display the moving band of chatoyancy. Achieving a perfect dome requires deft control of depth, symmetry, and polish, so that the light skims across the fiber structure and produces a cat eye that appears to glide as the gem moves. Our craftsmen balanced the domes to match, aligned the bands for pleasing visual continuity, and finished both stones to an excellent polish that highlights the warm golden brown tones. At The Natural Gemstone Company we take pride in pairing scientific accuracy with artisanal care, presenting gemstones that are truthful to their origin and refined by hand for modern jewelry. These matched round cabochon tiger eyes are ready to be set into a ring, a pair of earrings, or a bespoke design, carrying with them the long journey from Ceylon earth to an enduring piece of wearable art.
