Product description

One exquisite transparent Swiss blue topaz, oval shape, weighing 20.75 carats, dimensions 19.98 by 14.94 by 9.15 mm, origin Ceylon, Sri Lanka, enhancement irradiated, clarity grade very very slightly included evaluated at eye level, vivid color intensity, excellent polish, offered by The Natural Gemstone Company. The oval outline has been proportioned to preserve weight while optimizing optical performance, with a gently elongated profile that promotes a broad play of color across the table without sacrificing face up brilliance. The vivid hue is homogeneously distributed throughout the crystal lattice as a result of carefully controlled irradiation applied to high quality Ceylon rough, and the resulting blue is stable and saturated, exhibiting the classic Swiss blue tone prized by connoisseurs. The clarity assessment performed at eye level confirms only minute inclusions that do not interrupt the path of light, permitting uninterrupted internal reflection and delivering a clean, lively appearance to the naked eye. The excellent polish further enhances surface luster and ensures minimal light scatter at facet junctions, preserving crisp facet delineation under loupe and under direct illumination.

The cutting geometry is a precision mixed brilliant schema, deliberately combining a brilliant style crown with a carefully modified pavilion architecture to maximize light return and scintillation. On the crown, the arrangement of star facets, kite facets, and upper girdle facets has been executed with consistent symmetry and proportional facet angles, yielding a broad, reflective table that serves as a portal for intense color transmission. The pavilion employs a set of pavilion mains and complementary lower facets that are oriented to capture incident light and redirect it back through the crown in a controlled sequence of internal reflections. This interplay between crown and pavilion creates pronounced contrast scintillation, with alternating regions of bright flashes and deep color windows that animate with movement. Facet junctions are tight and even, girdle thickness is controlled to support secure setting without excessive metal concealment, and the facet pattern has been optimized to balance brilliance and color saturation so that the vivid blue is neither washed out by excessive brilliance nor dulled by excessive light retention.

Craftsmanship techniques employed during the cutting process reflect a meticulous approach to geometry, proportion, and surface finishing. The cutter prioritized an ideal crown to pavilion ratio tailored to the refractive and dispersion characteristics of topaz, ensuring efficient use of the stone geometry to produce maximum light play, while avoiding internal light leakage that would reduce perceived color intensity. Precision cutting machines were used to establish primary facet angles, followed by incremental hand finishing to refine facet symmetry and to achieve the excellent polish observed. The irradiated enhancement was applied only to material sourced from Ceylon, Sri Lanka, selected for its clarity and crystal structure, and subsequent thermal stabilization was performed to ensure color permanence. From a setting perspective, this 20.75 carat oval is well suited to designs that allow ample light access through the pavilion and crown, such as four or six prong mounts, semi bezel styles that expose the girdle, or open gallery settings that permit light to circulate freely. Given the natural cleavage properties of topaz, The Natural Gemstone Company recommends precision setting techniques and professional jeweler handling to protect the stone during fabrication. This topaz represents a technical accomplishment in cutting and finishing, offering informed buyers a gem whose geometric faceting, calibrated proportions, and superior polish combine to produce a maximal and lively optical performance.
