Born from the warm heart of Ceylon, this tourmaline began its journey deep within Sri Lankan pegmatites, where time and mineral rich fluids coaxed color and clarity into a single crystal. Hand extracted by skilled local miners and thoughtfully selected by our procurement team, the rough was entrusted to master cutters associated with The Natural Gemstone Company. The result is a transparent 13.12 carat cushion shape brownish orange tourmaline, measuring 16.21 by 13.43 by 9.65 mm, with a mixed brilliant cut, and a clarity grade of very very slightly included when evaluated at eye level. Its intense color intensity and excellent polish arrive with no enhancement, a natural statement of origin and quality. This gem carries with it the warmth of the island skies, a subtle shift between brown and orange tones that speaks of sunlit laterite and ancient stone, and a provenance that honors both the land and the hands that brought it to light.
The mixed brilliant cut is the language through which this tourmaline speaks to light, carefully crafted to maximize both scintillation and depth of hue. On the crown, brilliant style facets scatter light into lively flashes, creating an immediate play of brilliance when the gem is viewed face up. Below the girdle, precisely angled pavilion facets act as mirrors, returning light back through the table while enhancing the stone with a deep, velvety saturation. The cushion shape softens the geometry, allowing broad flashes to mingle with pinpoint sparkle, so each movement reveals layers of color and fire. With very very slight inclusions that do not interrupt the gem at eye level, light travels with minimal interruption, and the excellent polish ensures each facet reflects with crisp clarity. This combination of natural color, masterful cutting, and ethical provenance makes this tourmaline an exceptional center stone for a bespoke ring or a statement pendant. From the mines of Ceylon to the final hand inspection at The Natural Gemstone Company, this gem is a celebration of nature refined by human skill, ready to become the centerpiece of your next heirloom.
