This specimen is a transparent slice shape watermelon tourmaline weighing 20.66 carats, with dimensions 20.47 x 18.31 x 5.12 mm. The piece is a natural, unenhanced stone from Mozambique, presented in its current slice form, the cut is not applicable, clarity grade is slightly included and evaluated at eye level, color intensity is very light, and polish is excellent. The combination of the generous carat weight and the shallow slice profile yields a visually substantial example that retains a high degree of translucency and internal color zoning.
Visually the stone exhibits the classic watermelon tourmaline pattern, with a well defined pink core surrounded by a pale green rim, the contrast appearing delicate due to the very light overall color intensity. Internal features are present, consistent with the slightly included clarity grade, and these inclusions are visible at eye level without materially obscuring the distinctive color zoning. The excellent polish enhances surface luster and light return across the slice, allowing the internal banding to read clearly under direct lighting. As a natural, untreated piece from Mozambique, the stone offers the unaltered character and optical nuances that collectors and lapidaries value.
This watermelon tourmaline is suitable for use as a collector specimen, for bespoke jewelry applications that can accommodate a thin slice, or for further lapidary work where the present zoning and transparency could be preserved or emphasized. Given the thickness of 5.12 mm, protective settings such as bezels or partial bezels are recommended to support the slice and minimize edge exposure. Standard care includes avoiding sudden temperature changes and prolonged exposure to harsh chemicals, and handling with care to prevent edge chipping. The Natural Gemstone Company provides the measurements, weight, origin, enhancement status, and grading notes as supplied, and we are available to provide additional photographs or clarifications on request.
