This item is a transparent brownish yellow zircon, weighing 2.13 carats, presented in an oval shape with dimensions of 8.13 x 6.61 x 4.45 mm. The stone is faceted in a mixed brilliant cut, selected to balance optical performance and color distribution. Clarity is graded as very slightly included when evaluated at eye level, and color shows medium intensity that reads as an even warm tone across the pavilion and crown. The polish is excellent, and the stone is natural with no enhancement. The origin is Ceylon Sri Lanka, a region with a long history of producing gem quality zircon. These technical attributes form the baseline description used throughout our handling and presentation process.
The journey of this zircon began in the alluvial and primary gravels of central Sri Lanka, from deposits that have been worked by small teams and local operators for generations, using methods adapted to the local geology. After extraction, rough material underwent an initial sorting phase that separated transparent, gem quality pieces from lower grade material. Visual examination and loupe inspection at that stage identified the rough that would most effectively yield an oval mixed brilliant gem while preserving weight and minimizing internal stress. Selected rough was then prepared for cutting, with attention to natural crystal form and existing inclusions, so that the final faceted stone would maximize visual appeal without introducing treatment.
Cutting and finishing were executed by experienced lapidaries who specialize in zircon, following a workflow that emphasizes facet symmetry, proportion, and surface finish. The mixed brilliant cut for this piece was chosen to enhance return of light while maintaining a pleasing oval outline. During cutting, facet angles and table size were calibrated to the measured dimensions of 8.13 x 6.61 x 4.45 mm, and material removal was managed to preserve carat weight. Clarity evaluation at eye level confirmed a grade of very slightly included, meaning the inclusions are minor and do not significantly distract from overall appearance when worn. The excellent polish was achieved through progressive abrasives and final polishing agents that bring out the inherent brilliance and dispersion characteristic of zircon. No heat treatment or other enhancement was applied, so the brownish yellow coloration is wholly natural and stable under normal conditions.
Upon completion, the stone underwent final quality control and documentation at our facilities, where measurements were verified and photography was conducted to accurately represent color and proportions. The Natural Gemstone Company handles packaging and disclosure with emphasis on transparency, noting the origin as Ceylon Sri Lanka, the lack of enhancement, and the measured specifications. This zircon is well suited to a variety of settings, including solitaire rings and pendant settings that can showcase its oval outline and internal play of light. Because of its clarity and medium color intensity, metal choices such as warm yellow gold or neutral platinum will present different aesthetic balances, and the gem will perform well in settings that allow light to enter and exit through the table and crown facets. Routine care involves avoiding prolonged exposure to harsh chemicals and protecting the stone from hard knocks. The documented journey from mine to market, combined with the natural origin and unenhanced state, provides a clear provenance and a factual basis for appraisal and use.
